Okay, we know, we know, it’s shameless self promotion. We will be using the increased traffic from our website to fund this donation. We will be sending Red Cross the check for the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami.
UPDATE: We forgot to add what we’d do if someone were to “like” the post. We will combine the reblogs and likes we got from our last post along with the reblogs and likes we get from this post.
We wish we can donate more, but it’s all we can handle. If you would like to donate directly to the cause, please click here.
We will be donating 1 cent per every reblog, 1 cent for every like and 5 cents per every new follower we get. We’ll be sending the check to American Red Cross.

Diamonds (and oldies) are Forever

I love music, it is life-blood to me or more accurately, ear crack. I grew up listening to the hits of the 60s, 70s, 80s and of course the decade of my youth the 90s. But what impacts me more than the music of my mother’s generation is the music of my grandparents generation, the 30s, 40s and 50s had some of the best music of the past hundred years from Sinatra (my favorite of this whole time, nothing can top him) to Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly, Fred Astare and Judy Garland and of course many many others. These decades laid the foundations for every song we hear today, the 30s were full of jazz and will as the Depression lingered and many sought escape, the 40s entered a more patriotic phase as we entered World War II, and with the 50s was good ol’ American Rock and Roll, Elvis became so famous and black musicians became more promenent in the mainstream. Growing up in close proximity to my grandparents was very very beneficial to me I grew up listening to the great artists of the early 20th century, whats more is that I also grew up watching old black and white movies which not only made me love movies so much more but also exposed me to this music so much more. Now the title of this is taken from the old term that “diamonds are forever” due to value and the properties of diamonds but also from the Bond movie of the same name because although it was realeased in 1971 the song that shares the title of the movie takes many of its style from earlier music of the 40s and 50s and is very reminisent of that time. I believe that a lot can be found in music including a link to the past, to imagine yourself in the shoes of someone at the time of the song and the influences that shaped styles of music or the song or the lyrics of the song bringing you back to a time so different than now, and that is why I belive that like diamonds, oldies are forever.

(Don’t Fear) The Reaper

One of my favorite songs ever is “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by Blue Öyster Cult. It is a very iconic song and one that I have known for a very long time. I remember one day where I heard it on the way to school, at school and on the way home and I remember a weird feeling about that happening because first of all its the radio and its totally random what you are going to hear station to station and second because it was the same song. I think a lot of people just think that this song is about suicide but I think its more about accepting death and mortality, I think that this is why I like it so much, along with the sound of the guitar, drums, and cowbell is so very haunting to me and is a melody that I will never forget. Today I was listening to this song alot with the windows down, the wind blowing through my hair and the speed increasing and the song just fit and it was perfect.
